Williamson County Welcome Wagon

Several Williamson County officials arrived at Austin Bergstrom airport November 2 to welcome home World War II Veterans from Williamson County and the Austin region after the November Honor Flight. Veteran VIPs included Howard Spiker and William Bauke of Sun City, and Bill Williams of Florence. Veteran flights are sponsored, at no charge to the veterans, to bring WWII vets to Washington DC to see the memorials created in their honor. Honor Flight continues to search for veterans who have not participated in an Honor Flight. If you are a veteran or know one, please contact Matt Gardner (512) 591-1877, Vice-chair of Honor Flight Austin or visit honorflightaustin.org for information.

Georgetown resident Matt Gardner escorted the nation’s oldest living veteran, Mr. Richard Overton of Austin, who is 107 years old, to a breakfast in the White House. Mr. Overton was invited to meet the President to celebrate Veterans Day.
